We haven't had a Primary Activity in years so I was quite surprised to see that there was one smack dab in the middle of July when half the ward is off somewhere else on vacation. But since we were home I made sure the kids attended and they had a great time. The theme of the activity was Pioneer Day since it was just around the corner. The kids were divided into 3 groups to take part in three different activities. In one room was a "pioneer woman" telling all about her experiences joining the church, sailing to America, and then walking the plains to get to the Salt Lake Valley.
In the kitchen the kids churned butter the 21st century way - shaking cream in a jar. It worked and it worked quickly which is what the leaders were going for.
Enjoying some churned butter on cornbread. It was actually quite good.
The last activity was a fun craft - a pioneer wagon made of a granola bar, candy, and a big puff marshmallow.
There was even a little teddy graham driver.
When all the morning activities were done the kids gathered in the gym for relay races.
They had to put on three items of western clothing before racing back to tag the next kid.
Xander looks absolutely thrilled!
The kids really loved the sack races!
To finish off the fun Primary Activity was the bike parade. The kids were all supposed to have decorated their bikes or wagons or scooters in a patriotic or pioneer way. Well, we skipped the decorating part and just enjoyed being part of the parade.
Gotta love freezie pops on such a scorcher of a day. It was hot!!!
This looks like so much fun! I'm going to try to do that cream to butter for a FHE activity!
