Once Upon a Time

"Once upon a time, in a land not too far away, lived a beautiful princess named Savannah Leigh. Upon her birth 11 years ago, the evil enchantress Aeval put a curse on this sweet young princess. On the day of her 11th birthday...oh, no! The exact curse was not written down!"  A bunch of Savannah's friends were invited to a special Fairy Tale party to help Savannah face whatever curse might come her way. Thank goodness for Savannah there really wasn't a curse, just a bunch of games, food, and fun all involving famous fairy tales and characters.
To start off the evening the girls played the game "Don't Eat Grandma" (Little Red Riding Hood). The girls weren't quite getting the whole yelling "Don't Eat Grandma!" so I had to show them how it was properly done. I think that embarrassed Savannah a bit.
They certainly enjoyed eating all the m&m's.
Next was a game of charades to figure out the name of a fairy tale character (Rumpelstiltskin). The girls did a pretty impressive job at acting out Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, Mama Bear, and others.
It was definitely time for some food so the girls were invited to load their plates and head down to the tea party on the back patio (Alice in Wonderland).
The highlight of the tea party was when the Mad Hatter showed up with hats for all the girls to wear.
Some were thrilled...
others, not so much. Savannah was wishing her dad and his crazy hats had stayed upstairs!
Parties at the Pierce house always include some kind of relay. Since there weren't too many Fairy Tale party ideas I really had to dig deep for some fun ideas and this one the girls really enjoyed, wanting to run it a second time. First, the girls had to build a house of bricks (3 Little Pigs).
Next they had to put on their shoes that had been thrown into a big pile before the relay began (Cinderella).
After they had their shoes on, they had to take a bite of a poisoned apple...
which caused them to fall into a deep sleep (Snow White).
The next person on their team had to blow down (or knock down) the brick house, find their shoes and put them on, and then stomp on the balloon to find the antidote for the poisoned apple...a kiss.
Thank goodness there were two princes nearby because those "kisses" had to be delivered by a prince or the enchantment just wouldn't be broken! But the cute little princes took care of business and the girls enjoyed their delicious kisses!
Following the relay the girls divided into teams and had a gingerbread house decorating contest (Hansel and Gretel).
After that the girls partnered up to see if they could untangle Rapunzel's long, long hair.
We had a winner for guessing how many magic beans were in a jar (Jack and the Beanstalk); amazingly she was only 8 beans off the correct amount!
There was also a prize awarded for the game where the girls had to correctly identify which fairy tale various items represented. Savannah only missed 1 out of 19 items but of course she can't win a prize at her own party so the winner was actually a girl who was able to name 13. Not too shabby!
We didn't have a cake this time but the girls didn't seem too disappointed and Savannah was quite content to blow out the candles on her cupcake.

Another fun party for the Pierce history books!

  1. You are so creative with your kids' parties! I'm exhausted just reading about it. :) What awesome memories you are helping them create. And I love that David dresses up for them as well.
