It was a bit of a rough night and I don't think any of us got much sleep but everyone was ready to go the next morning. We started with some breakfast in the main yurt...
and then grabbed a few more pictures of our camp site.
First adventure for the day - canoeing! Kellan, Noah, and McKenna were quite the crew!
Love that these two are such good buddies!
Heidi, Ryan, and Ash...
and me, Ciara, and Xander. Ciara was extremely nervous at first but we soon settled all her fears. I had no intention of doing anything that would get us flipped over and into that freezing cold water.
Heidi was content to let the others do all the work, ha ha!
When these three weren't busy trying to ram us, they were serenading everyone on the lake with rock songs.
We spent a good 45 mins to an hour rowing around the lake. It was a beautiful spot and a very cold morning.
We got a view of some birds warming their wings in the morning sun.
Next up was learning about life in the stream.
We got to wade on in with our nets and get up close and personal with all the little creatures that live in the water.
We were able to find some really cool things!
There were all kinds of things living on this rock that Kellan pulled up.
What a beautiful spot and we had such a fun time exploring it (except when my boots filled up with water!).
Our last adventure of the day was the open air safari. It was so fun driving all over the park and seeing all the animals up close and just roaming around. The only bad thing was it was so frigidly cold and none of us were prepared for it. It was May and we hadn't expected to be traveling through arctic conditions!
She just didn't want to get out of the road, even when we got super close to her. After about 15 minutes or so she finally moved over so we could pass.
We loved the rhinos!
We had a pit stop about half way through and were able to spend some time in this bird enclosure feeding them peanut butter and seed sticks. Best thing about it was the cute birds; second best thing was that it was super warm inside and by this point we all needed to thaw out a bit. I love this picture of Xander because I caught him right as a bird startled him, ha ha!
They LOVED these sticks!!
These two!
Back on safari...
and a stop at the Carnivore Center where they house the dhole, the cheetah, and the African painted dog. Obviously these animals have to be in their own enclosures.
The last part of our safari we drove around the open range where we were able to spot more rhinos as well as sichuan takin, oryx, antelope, wild horses, deer, ostrich, and zebras.
Warming up and goofing off at the gift shop before heading home. Such a fun weekend adventure!
