Savannah's team didn't have much success on Sunday so no championship game for us; Monday was dedicated to all things Disney. The day started before the sun was even up - we were off to have breakfast with Mickey!
As we took a ferry over to the hotel, we got to witness a beautiful sunrise.
Waiting in the lobby...
and finally getting seated. There were quite a few of us!
Savannah hanging' with Rachel and Taylor...
as well as Lilo...
and Pluto!
Mickey got the conga line going!
All the girls quickly joined the line, dancing along with the Disney characters.
This sassy girl getting her groove on!
A morning with Stitch is always a good way to start the day!
The girls with Mickey...
and then the parents got their turn.
"Dum Dum, you give me gum gum."
Lookin' fierce, girls!
It was a really fun breakfast with the Disney characters!
Now it's time for the Magic Kingdom! The excitement was building as we rode the monorail over to the park.
Everyone must take a picture in front of Disneyland.
Coach Shawn made sure that the girls who had never been to Disneyland went to City Hall on Main Street to get their "First Time" stickers. Lauren, Morgan, Savannah, Rachel, and Claire.
In front of Cinderella's Castle.
Our first stop in the park was Tomorrowland.
Shawn, Michelle, and Emily kept talking about how much fun the Buzz Lightyear ride was so we headed there first. Two people ride in this little car and shoot lazers at different targets and creatures throughout the ride, earning points along the way. Obviously we all wanted to beat each other so the ride got a little intense. I am always one to be competitive in these kinds of situations so it was no surprise to come off the ride and see this picture. I definitely had my game face on!
The picture became a huge hit! All the girls kept showing it to each other, saying how funny it was. So glad I could give everyone a laugh for the day.
Next was the Monsters Inc. show which was hilarious!
The monster on the screen is being voiced by someone who can see all of us in the auditorium so he makes a lot of references to members of the audience. Part of our group even made it to the big screen. Unfortunately my phone camera took a lousy picture but we all got a big kick out of the monster referring to Shawn as the guy with bad body language and Matt as the guy who matches the furniture.
Another favorite ride for the girls was the Speedway; I guess it's appealing because they don't drive yet.
The parents just hung out in the bleachers and took pictures.
Time for some ice cream (and a really scary Rachel).
Although we spotted Rapunzel's tower, Savannah did not get to see Flynn Rider which really bummed her out.
I insisted we go to the Haunted House which has always been one of my favorites.
Next was Frontierland and Thunder Mountain...
as well as Splash Mountain.
Another blurry picture but I love Savannah's hands in the air and head thrown back, experiencing the thrill of the ride!
This was pretty much the girl gang for the day - Lauren, Claire, Savannah, and Emily.
Time to enjoy another treat. I finally got my funnel cake but we didn't take a picture of that yumminess.
The older lady gang - me, Sandy, and Diane. (Missing from this picture were our other two gang members, Shawn and Michelle.) I really enjoyed getting to know these ladies better.
Another favorite of mine is Pirates!
The girls thought it was just ok but they did like the costumes in the gift shop.
Shawn and Michelle had gone over to Main Street a little early and were early to grab us a great spot to watch the Electrical Parade. We loved it!
Following the parade is a light show on the Cinderella castle which was absolutely amazing! Some of my favorite scenes shown were Beauty and the Beast and Frozen.
The light show ended with fireworks!
After the parade and light show we still had several hours in the park before it closed so we headed over to Space Mountain. Unfortunately that ride ate up about an hour and an half of our time but it's such a fun ride that no one complained. The girls hit the speedway one more time and then the tea cups...
and then we all went on It's A Small World. Shawn had been talking about the ride all day, insisting that it is a must when one visits the Magic Kingdom. All I can say is, despite Savannah's smile, the girls were not impressed!
Earlier in the day Michelle had shared a story from her childhood, insisting that her fear of heights could be traced to the Dumbo ride when she was a little girl. It had been very traumatizing and she had never ridden Dumbo since. We kept teasing her all day that she needed to overcome her fear of the ride and that we would be there to support her. So, to end the night, we headed over to Dumbo. Michelle was ready to conquer her fear!
By the time we got there it was close to midnight so we were the only ones in line but the ride was in operation. We watched the empty Dumbos go up and down and were able to reassure her that it really didn't go that high. We had her convinced...and then the Dumbos were cranked into super drive and up they went, high in the sky. She almost backed out at that point but, because we were all laughing so hard and riding high from the fun of the day, we were able to get her in that Dumbo!
I rode with her and, other than a few little meltdowns and freak outs, we had a blast!
The park was closed by the time we finished our Dumbo fun so we made our way toward the exit. We stopped along the way to take a few pictures of the castle.
Good night, Walt and Mickey! Thanks for such an awesome day!!
It was a long day and a late night; it was after 1:00 by the time we got back to the hotel and into bed.
What an amazing trip! I'm so grateful that Savannah and I were able to have this fun weekend together. It was definitely hard to leave. One last picture at the airport before we headed back to cold Maryland - Savannah, Mackenzie, Deliah, Christina, and Julia.
