The second annual Edgewood Gold Game to support awareness of childhood cancer.
We played Harford Tech and their team was so supportive of the cause, wearing gold ribbons and other gold accessories. Rivals on the soccer field but coming together for a good cause.
Most of these girls know each other so there had to be a goofy picture as well. Savannah and her good friend and previous teammate Emily are in the back row.
Warm ups...
and the anthem were rain free.
And then the monsoon hit! Seriously, the heavens opened up and started pouring rain down on us. It lasted the ENTIRE first half. Our game actually made the local paper and there's a picture of all us parents sitting in the bleachers, huddled under our umbrellas. It was pretty miserable for us in the stands but rain always makes for a tough game.
Despite the deluge, our girls played amazing! They dominated possession and I think Harford Tech was completely taken by surprise. Unfortunately, as often times happens in soccer, although we were clearly the better team, we were struggling with getting our shots to go in and Harford Tech ended up getting a lucky shot off, going up 1-0. The only picture I got of my girl from the game.
Second half, same thing - we played strong, they were struggling, and Ryan made a beautiful cross from the corner and Savannah put it right in to tie up the game. I was super proud of her; it was a beautiful goal! Unfortunately a little bit later our defense broke down and they were able to put in another goal which turned out to be the winning goal. What a heartbreaker, to lose that game! Afterwards it was all smiles as Savannah posed with her friends Claire and Emily.
And I got to pose with my friends, Diane and Michelle, with a few creepy photo bombers behind me.
Second game of the week was against Aberdeen.
Aberdeen is not one of the power house teams so we were able to beat them easily, 5-0, with Savannah scoring another goal.
