Another college showcase tournament, this time in Pennsylvania. Who thinks it's a good idea to have these outdoor tournaments in December?!?! Just as cold as the Thanksgiving one but thankfully sunny skies this time.
The whole point of these tournaments is to get the girls in front of college recruiters and coaches but Savannah has zero interest in attending a school in the East plus she's pretty sure she doesn't want to play in college so these tournaments are just fun times for her. And although there's no pressure on her to impress anyone, she still plays super hard to help her teammates, who are being observed, look even better.
The girls played a great game and ended up winning 2-1.
We had a huge break in between games so Savannah and I headed out to find some lunch. She was hankering for some Italian so we found this great pizza place and ordered the lunch special. WE LOVE PIZZA!!!
After lunch we headed over to the mall just to look around and kill some time. There really is a good reason I avoid malls during the Christmas season - the place was packed! After that madhouse we made one final stop, at a local pharmacy, to get some hand and foot warmers, and then it was back to the field for one more game in the freezing cold!
We started off this game really tough, going up 2-0 within the first 15 minutes.
Unfortunately we couldn't keep up the momentum and, although Savannah added one more goal to our score, we ended up losing 5-3. (As I write this post in March, I want to note that although Savannah did not prepare a personal flyer to hand out to coaches, she was recently contacted by the coach from Virginia Wesleyan who saw her play in one of these games and was impressed. She still has no interest in staying out here but it has done wonders in boosting her confidence.) Back at the homestead, Noah had his first basketball game of the season, which they lost 29-11. Yikes!
Later that night was the ward Christmas party. Thank goodness for my sweet friend Sommer who took these pictures of Noah with Santa for me!
