Savannah's Soccer Life

Some of my favorite moments last fall were cheering my girl on in her high school soccer games!

Havre de Grace - this poor team...we just walloped on them! Savannah had a hat trick within the first ten minutes of the game.
Thank goodness we have a really great coach who reined in our girls and kept the final score to a non-embarrassing level.
Perryville - another struggling team and yet another game where the girls went to a pass only style of game after the first half.
A breakaway...
right before she got that goal!
Our team ended up winning by 6 or 7 goals. Savannah said the hardest moment came in the second half when she was all alone in front of the goal and could easily have scored but had to pass due to her coach's no score rule at that point.
Fallston - a nail biter of a game. We scored first and then watched Fallston score 4 goals against us.
But our girls didn't give up! We scored 2 more in the second half and as the game came down to the end we were pushing hard to score another.
What made the game even more intense for Savannah was she was playing against several of her Northern Elite teammates as well as a friend from the Bynum Run ward. Here she is with Katie Stucki who defended her throughout the game.
With about 45 seconds left in the game, our team got a breakaway and, with numbers, was heading down the field. Unfortunately the ref decided at that moment to stop the game for an injury. Ugh, it made me so mad. Refs are never supposed to stop a breakaway, even for an injury. We got a free kick and for the last seconds of the game kept shooting that ball, trying to get it in the net. The thing I hate most about these high school games is the game clock; rather than the ref calling the game, the game ends when the clock goes off. Savannah took a last second shot to tie the game...and it just missed as the buzzer went off. The whole Edgewood crowd let out a collective groan which was pretty funny but it sure was a bummer to lose. After the game we grabbed some pictures with her Northern Elite sisters: Delia, Adria, Alison, and Tory.
North Harford - another team filled with Northern Elite teammates and another heartbreaking loss.
But we definitely love those girls so had to get more pictures at the end of the game: Alyssa, Jessica, Carly, Rachel, Taylor, and Cassidy.
Hammond - I loved playing against this team, even though the school was an hour away, because I was able to get really close to the field and take some great shots of my girl!
Always fighting for that ball!

Some instruction from Coach Miller.

One of my favorite pictures!
Savannah played her heart out but this ended up being a tough game for her scoring wise. She had several wide open, breakaway opportunities and each just went wide. I know she was frustrated with herself but I am always proud of her for playing hard and never giving up. We were able to come away from this one with a win!
This was also the game she got nailed in the throat...hard! Poor thing!
Harford Tech - another great game for our girls but once again, they just could not pull out the win against a same division team.
Celebrating the seniors for Senior Night.
Such a beautiful evening to watch soccer.
Hangin' with her Northern Elite teammate, Emily, who plays on the Harford Tech Varsity team but was sidelined due to injury.
Bel Air - another close game but unfortunately, another loss.
Once again, so proud of Savannah and her whole team. These other schools have gobs of girls who show up for tryouts; Edgewood didn't even have enough girls show up to fill both the Varsity and JV teams. Savannah had girls on her team that have never even played soccer before. Despite all of this, each game was close and the girls hung in there, never giving up.
A flower for the parents. Love it!
And a few more Northern Elite teammates to take pictures with: Mackenzie and Lauren.
