Xander's Football Life

Before one of Xander's games, Devin's parents, Marvin and Schineck, and I were chatting about how big the players on the opposing team were. Our guys looked so little compared to the other guys.
All of a sudden Marvin says, "Look who we're sending out as captains!" To my pleasant surprise there were Xander and Devin as part of the captain delegation in the middle of the field. They had never been chosen to do this before.
As they shook hands with the captains of the opposing team, Marvin started to laugh and said, "I know why they sent out our boys. Our boys are the biggest on the team and our coaches want to look like we measure up!"
Whatever the reason, Xander was thrilled that he got to be captain alongside his best friend for a game.
Unfortunately it was another tough game for us but I'll never stop cheering for #14!
Every once in awhile our guys pulled out a win which was always very exciting!
Lookin' to tackle someone!
Lined up for a kick off.
Trying to get at that quarterback!
Always battling!
Not the best picture because I was so excited when I took it. That's Xander on the ground almost out of the picture - he had just sacked the quarterback!
We love those wins!
After a long season of multiple practices a week and tough but fun games on Saturday, Xander's football life was done for the year. David and I were so proud of him. He had made the A team despite never having played before, he never gave up even when he didn't get as much playing time as he would have liked, he was coachable, he worked hard at every practice, and he was an awesome teammate and always showed good sportmanship. I can't wait until next fall!
