Our Anniversary Getaway

As I was upstairs getting ready to leave for our anniversary getaway, David walked into our room and announced that our air conditioner was broken. It just so happened to be one of the hottest days of the summer, nearing the mid-90's with high humidity, so this was a problem indeed. He called the AC people and miraculously they were able to come in and give an estimate that day! But the news was horrible...we were going to need a whole new system which of course costs thousands of dollars. Happy Anniversary to us! Once again, a miracle occurred - they would be able to install everything the next day. But David and I had been planning our getaway for quite some time and were not willing to give it up. With an appointment scheduled for the day after we returned, David and I left our poor, hot, sweaty kids at home and headed up to Philly as planned. We arrived mid-afternoon, checked into our hotel, and then headed out to soak up the sights and sounds of Philadelphia.
Celebrating 24 years of LOVE!
We finally made it to the Rocky statue and steps! It was quite the feat considering how amazingly hot and humid it was!!
What a view!
Dinner at our favorite Mexican place around the corner from the temple.
Our last stop of the evening - the beautiful Philadelphia temple!
After that it was an Uber back to our hotel for some ice cream and a movie.
The next morning we were up and ready to see more of Philly. But first we made a donut run at Reading Terminal Market.
Today we hit the historical sites of Philly, with our first stop at Independence Hall.
Won't someone open up a window?
Too many flies, yes, too many flies.
One of my favorite moments? After the tour we sat on a bench outside, enjoying the shade and singing songs from the musical 1776.
The Liberty Bell...
enjoying time with Benjamin Franklin...
the Betsy Ross house...

Elfreth's Alley...
Christ Church...
Benjamin Franklin's old stomping grounds...
and a replica of the house on the exact site where Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence.
A few more cool things on our way back to the hotel.
What a wonderful anniversary celebration! It was so nice to get away and spend some quality time together. Our kids survived a night in hell, we joined them for another night of heat and sweat, and then wonder of wonders, we got our new AC!
