Cousin Camp

With the initial idea from Pinterest and a few tweaks and ideas of our own, Heidi and I were able to come up with the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Cousin Camp. The kids had a blast!  To start things off we had the kids watch the movie in the morning. Then, at the end of lunch, they each received a chocolate bar as dessert but the real surprise was that each candy bar contained a golden ticket that allowed them to participate in the fun activities ahead.
The lucky winners of the golden tickets!
The first event of the day was Veruca Salt's Squirrel Chase. Just like Duck, Duck, Goose, the kids sat in a circle while one of them tapped each person on the head saying "nut". Eventually one of them got tapped with the word "Squirrel" and off they'd go! The person who made it around the circle without getting caught received a Nutter Butter cookie.
We then moved inside for Augustus Gloop. Here each teammate had to fill the other person's shirt with as many balloons as he or she could to make their cousin look like the chubby character. But don't worry..."Augustus Gloop will not be harmed, Augustus Gloop will not be harmed!" Sorry, I just can not say his name without singing that little jingle from the movie.
I think the kids had the most fun with this activity!
I was amazed with how many balloons they were able to get in those shirts!
Too funny!
Next came Mike Teavee - putting on the ridiculous white glasses, scooping up as many chocolate bars as you can, and racing across the room to deposit the chocolate by the TV. We ran this race a number of times.
We then channeled our inner Violet Beauregarde by filling up our "blueberries" with water and then squeezing the "juice" into a cup. The first team to fill their cup was declared the winner!
After the blueberry race we headed over to the picnic table where each cousin received a plate full of whipped cream. Hidden in that pile of yummy creaminess were 3 gummy frogs. The first to find the frogs and put them to the side wins. Only rule - they could not use their hands! As I told the kids this rule they all looked at me as if I was crazy; apparently none of them have participated in any pie eating contests recently. Kellan was a little unsure about this one so Heidi took his spot and showed the kids how it was done. Once they saw her they all happily shoved their faces into the whipped cream.
After finding the frogs they all asked if they could just eat the whipped cream. Well, of course!!!
To finish up our fun cousin camp the kids made candy necklaces with gummy life savers, Apple Jacks, and peach rings.
This was definitely a fun afternoon activity!

  1. What a great way to spend the afternoon with cousins! That truly is a wonderful idea. I only wish that I could have been there to observe (and perhaps participate in a few of those games!). I love seeing all of the pictures.
